Truffles and crib art

Acqualagna is known all over the world as the “Capital of Truffles”. Its hills and woodlands are home to an abundance of truffles, imbued with a delicious flavour and aroma.

The Truffle Museum is a tribute to and a showcase for the culture of the tuber king of the forest, aiming to promote the excellence of local produce.

The town centre is surrounded by the mountains of Pietralata, Paganuccio, Catria and Nerone, while the streams of Burano and Candigliano flow through the area along the ancient Via Flaminia.

Acqualagna is also the birthplace of Enrico Mattei, a partisan, politician, founder, and president of Eni.
Churches, shrines, and abbeys are abundant in the area.

Among these are the Pelingo Sanctuary, which houses the venerated fresco of Our Lady of Mercy with Child, and the Abbey of San Vincenzo al Furlo, located in the Gola del Furlo State Nature Reserve.

Over the millennia, the river and wind have carved out an area of exceptional natural wealth, comprising remarkable landscapes, and a rich array of flora and fauna.

Fun Act

Acqualagna is also known for the Pietra d’Autore: a set of artisan “workshops” engaged in the artistic working of stone. These historical activities are based on the precious artefacts made by Furlo stonemasons, who have created and still create important works of art appreciated all over the world.
Crib art is particularly famous, and during the Christmas period lots of enthusiastic artisans open boutiques.
